How To Lose Weight With The Mediterranean Diet

If your main purpose of observing Mediterranean diet is for weight loss, then you should probably stick to the Greek side of the diet. Here is what the Greek Mediterranean diet looks like on a typical day.

Breakfast

The Greeks usually use whatever fruit is in season for breakfast. That means there is enough citrus to choose from during the winter or spring season. The average Greek requires a nice cup of coffee for energy every morning. In addition, is some fresh bread with natural honey which is in complete contrast with what an average American would have in the morning. Cheese is another beautiful option for the Greeks when it comes to breakfast food. Preferably a goat’s milk cheese like myzythra, graveria, or feta. With a breakfast of this nature, it can be inferred that you have only started out your day with 250 calories.




Morning Snack

Instead of having lunch, the Greeks would prefer a mid- morning snack one or two hours before lunch. And lunch is now taken in form of an early dinner. They like taking fruits like melons and apples in this regards.

Lunch

Another name for lunch in the Greek language is dinner. This happens to be the most important meal of the day. It is worthy of note that this is a cooked meal of fish and rice, salads, olives, perhaps some lamb kabob, plenty of fresh vegetables, a goulash, stew, or soup, rice pilaf, or a pita-bread sandwich. Dessert is basically a combination of fruits and cheese. Make sure you have a high variety coupled with a light serving and you will end up with just about 600 calories.



Supper

This is usually the meal taken when the sun has gone down. The high point here is to either have meat and vegetables or starch and vegetables. But you are never expected to have both at the same meal. Supper is a bit less than lunch in quantity, it can be as small as breakfast. They usually take wine when having supper. Broiled lamb, boiled green vegetables, cous cous, tomato and feta cheese, and any seafood are a perfect choice here. It is assumed that you do not bag over 500 calories during this meal. This, certainly is a delicious, healthy and weight-loss kind of diet.
